The Dodge Challenger Shaker Stomps All Over Your Sports-Car Niceties
I just spent a week with a Dodge Challenger, and it helped me recalibrate some internal stuff. It reminded me that, as much as we here at the magazine and website love cars, sometimes we get caught up in the fussy stuff.
Dodge used the occasion of the 2014 New York Auto Show to offer a first look at the newest addition to the Challenger lineup. The 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker will join seven other trim levels in the 2015 Challenger lineup: SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, and 6.4 Litre Scat Pack.
The available, functional Shaker hood is part of the 2015 Challenger’s 1971-inspired styling update. Outside, the retro flavored split grille and power bulge hood combine with modern elements like LED halo headlights and LED split tail lamps. Shaker models sport satin black stripes from end to end, with a gloss black surround for the scoop, special badging, and a satin black tail spoiler and fuel filler door. A Scat Pack Appearance Group adds a gloss black grille surround in front, black matte aluminum rims for the side view. Dodge expands the palette of color choices to include two new heritage hues this year – SubLime and B5 Blue.
Dodge rolls out Shaker package for 2015 Challenger
Want to see that Hemi V8 doing its thing, peering out from under the hood of a new 2015 Dodge Challenger? Then you’ll want to specify the Shaker option, now available on the Challenger R/T, Challenger R/T Plus and soon on the Challenger 392.
Inside the ‘15 Challenger, it’s a mix of Mopar modern, with some heritage inspiration. Buyers can choose from 14 color and trim options, including solid or two-tone suede/leather upholstery, or throwback, hound’s-tooth cloth. Scat Pack models add embroidering on seats and floor mats, and special dash badging. Chrysler is ramping up customization options for customer cars in 2015, offering more than 100 Mopar accessories and performance parts. The list includes everything from cold air intakes and hood pins to suspension lowering kits, wheels and cat-back exhaust systems. Among the Challenger specific offerings are the shaker hood, T/A hood kit and hood venting system.
R/T models pack the 5.7 litre Hemi V-8, with 375 h.p. and 410 lb. ft. of torque (372/400 with automatic). Scat Pack cars get the 6.4L Hemi. With cold air induction, the 392 Hemi makes 385 horsepower and 475 lb. ft. of torque. Transmission choices include a Tremec six-speed manual and new, TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic. Dodge claims that the 5.7L/6-speed will get from 0-60 in the mid-five second range, while the 6.4L/8-speed combo should shave that time by a full second, and turn the quarter mile in the low-12’s. Chassis upgrades for Shaker cars include the Super Track Pack and Goodyear Egle F1 performance tires.
